Hormones sexuelles féminines. Vos questions répondues par le Spécialiste en Médecine Interne, le Dr Mera

I AM IN MY MID FORTIES AND OVER THE PAST YEAR MY SEX DRIVE HAS DIMINISHED MASSIVELY WHICH IS NOW CAUSING A PROBLEM IN MY RELATIONSHIP WITH MY HUSBAND. ¿DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THIS?

Hormones are chemical messengers produced by the endocrine glands and released into the bloodstream to let the body know what it needs to do, to run effectively.

Female sex hormones Oestrogen, Progesterone and small quantities of Testosterone are all produced by the ovaries and adrenal glands. If any of these levels fall out of balance it can have a kknock on effect on reproduction, bone and muscle growth, the way our body fat is distributed, cause excess facial hair and last but not least cause a lack of sex drive.

Oestrogen plays a crucial role in reproductive and sexual development beginning when a person reaches puberty.

Progesterone levels play a large role in controlling our menstrual cycle and preparing the body for pregnancy.Low levels can lead to difficulty in conceiving.

Testosterone which is known to be the main male sex hormone is also found in smaller amounts in females. This affects fertilily, sexual desire, and the production of red blood cells, tissue and bone mass.

Contact your Doctor and request a simple blood test to check your hormonal levels, this will diagnose if there is an imbalance and relevant treatment can be prescribed to help with your symptoms.
